The Polara Returns to Golf Pennsylvania Company Brings Back Hope for Recreational Golfers Everywhere
COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Polara is back.
Pounce Sports, LLC, today announced the re-launch of the Polara golf ball, with a revolutionary design that reduces hooks and slices by up to 75 percent. The Polara’s unique design enables the ball to straighten in flight, helping recreational golfers spend more time in the fairway and less time searching for a wayward shot.
The Polara is marketed by Pounce Sports, a Collegeville, Pennsylvania-based company aiming to put some fun back in golf for recreational golfers. The Polara is available at www.northof90.com and at 866-556-3100.
“Thanks to more than my share of hooks and slices, I’ve often come home disappointed with my day on the golf course and thought there has to be a better way,” said Andy Gesek, a co-founder and general manager of Pounce Sports. “The Polara is that better way. We are very excited to offer golfers a chance to leave the course with a smile instead of a frown.”
Today’s launch marks a return to golf for the Polara. The ball was first introduced in 1975 by PGA/Victor, with sales starting in 1977. The Polara posted strong sales in its first year but the USGA refused to approve the ball for tournament play, ruling that it would “reduce the skill required to play golf.” In 1978, the manufacturers sued the USGA. Litigation wound its ways through the courts until a settlement was reached in 1985 and the ball was removed from the market and became part of golf history.
With today’s re-launch, Pounce Sports hopes to help recreational golfers write their own history, Gesek said. Pounce’s founders came upon the idea for the launch in the midst of another not-so-fun round of golf. Two of the founders recalled hearing about the ball and dreaming about what it could mean to their golfing experience. The founders spent a year on research and planning leading to the Polara’s return. Unlike the initial marketers of the Polara, Pounce does not intend to submit the ball to the USGA for approval. The company will target recreational golfers looking to improve their game and golfing experience by spending more time in the fairway, said Gesek, who described himself and the other founders as true recreational golfers, or what some might call “hackers.”
“We want to give players like ourselves a chance to better enjoy a great game,” said Gesek. “This is not about winning a club championship.”
Pounce will initially market the Polara from www.northof90.com and telephone sales. North of 90 is the home of Pounce’s website for recreational golfers. The site includes a section on course reviews, a message board, area for posting scores and a pro shop.
